The Adventures of Alex, Jim, and Jay
in a Tropical Paradise
(as told by Jay)
Day 7 - Friday, November 8th
Culiacan to Mazatlan
Waiting to get Gary's bike fixed, down to the
Kawasaki shop we went, not knowing how long it would be before
the bike was fixed. Another hotel was waiting to sponsor us for
Saturday night, so we had to be getting on the road. We're about
400kms from Mazatlan, and yet another 500kms from there to Puerto
Vallarta and our hotel.
Dave and Gary told us to go ahead, they'll
met up with us in Guadalajara. Me (Jay), Jim and Alex rode to
Mazatlan, (and had a great time), got a cheap motel, showered,
cruised the strip with T-shirts, shorts, sandals and no helmets.
Went to 4 or 5 bars and nightclubs, (didn't have a drink! :-)
Hit the beds late and had a good snooze.
We passed the Tropic of Cancer!

Day 8 - Saturday, November 9th
Mazatlan to Puerto Vallarta
Clear blue skies for the ride ahead. Had some brekkie at the hotel
before leaving. Alex's bike fell over in the parking lot while we
were doing so. The ride to Puerto Vallarta was out of control. Crazy,
crazy traffic, etc., etc., like on Day 6 only worse, a long hot
sweaty day of 500kms. Dirty, tired and stinky, we arrived at the
Westin in the darkness of night. We were SO happy to be there. Our
room was out of this world. This place has 5 huge, all different
shaped swimming pools!
Surrounded by clear blue ocean and palm trees,
Alex and I rode to the touristy part of town to get some dinner
and do some partying. There were 200-250 people crowded around
the street outside the "No-Name Café", lots of
Americanos. The Tyson/Holyfield fight was on. We joined the cheering
frenzy and found a couple good seats (standing in the middle of
the road). Later, we visited a couple bars. Jim showed up, and
we hung out for a while. Back at the hotel, we had the greatest
sleep ever! Awesome place.

Day 9 - Sunday, November 10th
Puerto Vallarta to Guadalajara (Not!)
It's a long way to Guadalajara, and we put in a tough week so we
decided to take the day off. Jim managed to sweet talk the manager
into letting us stay one more night.
So today was our first day of rest. We took
full advantage of it, went to the beach, threw the Frisbee around,
then did absolutely nothing. I had a siesta in a hammock for a
couple hours, and that's about it.....great day, and great hotel!
Miles - None! Sun - Plenty!! :-)
(This entry was sent from the Universidad
Autonoma de Guadalajara. Thank you to Jorge Covarrubias.)
