Cusco, Peru

Jay sporting his new "touque"!
|

Not your traditional Christmas meal, but it hit the
spot.

Being Christmas and all, Jim and I made up
and enjoyed a huge breakfast of fresh OJ, eggs, pancakes and coffee.
It was outstanding! Proudly wearing my new hand woven Peruvian touque,
we headed downtown.
Cusco sits at around 10,000ft above sea level so the tempeature
can be quite brisk. I tried sending a fax home to my mum and dad
in Canada (wishing them Merry Christmas, and send me some new license
plates) but apparently they were in the middle of a huge snow storm,
and it had knocked out the power for a 300km radius! Disheartened
and frustrated, I went and did the thing I like doing most, I chowed
down a Christmas Lunch hamburger.
Later, the 4 of us got together for dinner, walked downtown
and discovered a resturant with turkey on the menu!! We were ecstatic.
We spent the first 15 minutes standing outside negotiating a price
with the waiter.
He started at $35.00 U.S. No no no we said. We came forward
with an offer of $15 a head. finally settling on a price of $20.
Excited and hungry we sat down to feast. After all that, garcon
returns to tell us, "we are sold out of turkey, but have pork
chops and bb«qued weasles availab Jim and I spent some time bartering
for some Peruvian artifacts, bought a sweater, socks, and he picked
up a scarf. Cheap like borsh.
