In addition to being a journey of self-discovery and exploration, the riders wish to give something back to the world in which they live. Money was raised to benefit two very deserving charities:

Save The Children

The American Cancer Society

The American Cancer Society is dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives from cancer and diminishing suffering from cancer. Over a half million people die of cancer each year in the U.S. alone and the ACS is a major funder of research, education, support programs, advocacy and services.

Save the Children is working to make lasting, positive change in the lives of disadvantaged children in the United States and in over 40 countries. Children and their rights are violated in many countries every day and through education, health, and emergency response in STC has an effective means of helping these children, their families, and the communities in which they live.

David Baumgarten overcame cancer in 1993 and wishes to give back to the ACS, which helped save his life. Alex Bisarello was raised in South America, seeing firsthand the conditions faced by children in the third-world, and has also taken part in the STC Sponsorship program.
